Brymore School Open Day / O.B.A. Re-Union .

Saturday July 27th 2009

After thunder storms & torrential rain in the days preceding our Open Day / Re-Union, we were so lucky to have such a beautiful & hot day! Parents, friends & Old Boys turned out in fantastic numbers to make the day a tremendous success again. The games field was well covered with vintage tractors, farm machinery, veteran cars, motor cycles, static engines, as well as dog training, gun dog obedience display & a parade of Farm Animals.

The Brymore School & Lackham College Caravans were on display & well supported. Food was supplied by F.O.B.S.A & the now usual spit roast on the very ingenious equipment. The school house Tug of War teams entertained the public!

The quad area had the usual craft tents & displays, as did the top of the main drive. The main hall had a variety of arts & crafts for sale. There was a long queue for ice cream all day, supplied by Blackmore Farm! The workshop yard & workshops had items on display produced by pupils of Brymore & there were several boys working in the forge in very hot conditions, demonstrating their skills. The new classrooms were open to show off pupils work & there were tours of new accommodation blocks. A band played in front of the new buildings. The farm & farm shop were open for all to see & purchase Brymore produce.

The Quiet Room was again occupied by the Old Boys Association as their ‘Lounge’ which was supported by copious amounts of memorabilia. Old Boys were asked to sign in on a large flip chart just inside the door; there was a steady stream of over 130 old boys, some of which hadn’t returned to Brymore for many years, plus our ‘old faithfull’s’ that return every year, without fail! The Old Brymorian’s Summer Draw tickets were on sale on the corner of the quad, leading to the games field, where they enjoyed brisk sales all day, in fact they sold out of tickets just before the Draw was due to take place. Some 25 plus very good prizes were donated by very generous sponsors. Peter Harris (Chairman of the OBA Committee) drew the winning ticket at around 3.30pm .

The Annual General Meeting of the Old Brymorians Association was held in the Quiet Room at 5.00pm & was well attended. Our Chairman thanked the Headmaster, Gina Bryant & staff for all their support during the year & for the use of the facilities for the day.

Our membership has grown steadily since the New O.B.A was formed & the membership now stands at just over 300. We have now been able to offer the Headmaster another Bursary, thanks to the efforts of the Members of the O.B.A. - well done to all concerned!

The Re-Union Supper was held in the dining hall, a hot buffet was enjoyed by all who attended.

We look forward to our next event:

Pym’s Night Dinner on 5 th. December 2009

Don’t Miss it, tickets are on sale now from the Treasurer Mike Fry - 01278 653723
